Aadyaraathri
"Aadya" means first, and "Rathri" means night, together in Malayalm, they mean the "first night" in
Malayalam weddings.

Adapradhaman is a dessert offered during the weddings in Kerala

Adravanu
The celebration of the engagement in Malayalam weddings

Agarbatti
Agarbatti are incense sticks that are lit up during the festivities

Agni Sakshi
Agni Sakshi is the act of getting married, whilst having fire as the witness

Aliyan
Aliyan means"brother in law" in the Christian community weddings of Kerala  

Amaavasi
Amaavasi is a night that has no moon

Ambalam
Ambalam means "Temple" in Malayalam

Is the act of offering prayers to both Arundhati and Vashisht

Bahu Bhaat
A traditional ceremony that is held on the second day of the wedding

Bandhu Veedu
A name for the husband's family

Banshi Biye
A Bengali ceremony which takes place the day after the wedding

Basar Ghar
A Bengali ceremony which takes place on the night of the wedding

Bhabhi
Bhabbi means Sister in law

Bhagwan
One of the many names for God

Bidaai
A traditional ceremony that celebrates the bride leaving her home and moving to her husband's home

Bou bhat
A Bengali ceremony in which the bride serves rice to her new family

Brahma
The creator of the universe and a part of the Hindu Trinity of Brahma

Chaitra
The first month of the Hindu calendar

Chandan
Sandalwood, an important ingredient used during Hindu weddings

Cheka
Is the name for the engagement ceremony

Choli
The upper part or blouse of the women’s traditional wedding attire

Chudi
Are the Bangles worn by the women

Chunni
Is the name for the Veil of the bride

Dampathi
Is the name given to the newly married couple

Devar Samardhne
A special ceremony in which the couples seek blessings from the Almighty and ask for a happy future
together

Devtas
Another name for God

Dhashina
Are the Gifts that the newly married couple offer to the elders after the wedding ceremony

Dhoti
The loose lower garment worn by Indian men

Doli
The vehicle on which the bride leaves to her husband's home

Dulha
Is the name for the groom

Dulhan
Is the name for the bride
